Happy 1st Birthday!

Happy Happy Birthday Maya dear! I know I am a few days late, but we celebrated Maya's first birthday this week. WOW! Where has the time gone? My tiny baby isn't a tiny baby any more. She's a beautiful busy toddler! The last year has been wonderful and we have so many great memories! We are looking forward to lots more good times ahead. Here's a few pics from our last year and from her birthday bash!

Walk, Walk, Walk

Maya's been at this trick for a while now and she just doesn't seem to want to let go and walk on her own. She's got quite good and turning her little walker the direction she wants to go and moves pretty fast. The video is the first day she started using it. Ricky was off work and letting me sleep in and was so excited when she started moving. She was pretty slow at first, but by the end of the day she was up and down the hall like a crazy lady. Sometimes she even says "wa, wa, wa" as she goes. So cute!

She did take two steps by herself the other day, but none since. She's funny, she knows how to get around quite efficently without having to let go of anything and is happy with that for now!

The Election is Over!

I guess I should preface this post with, this is not a political debate, a bash, or even a forum for sharing of political views. I don't want any negative said here. I am writing this because I have many wonderful people I know who are excited about the outcome of our election and other wonderful people who seem to be very upset about it so I am puting my thoughts out there thanks to others who can say things better than I can!

I can not tell you how sick of the election I got the last few weeks or maybe months. I was so ready for it to be over! It finally is! The people have spoken and we have a new president coming our way. I must say I do not completely agree with Obama's view points, but I do not believe that because he was elected the world is going to end anytime soon. Sure the last days are coming, but they've been coming for a while and will continue to come until they arrive.

My friend Shanna put it very nicely in her latest post "YES WE CAN". I agree with her and think she put lots of what I feel into words very nicely! So lets all move forward and make the best of all that we have!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween. We had an enjoyable day hanging around the house. After a busy day of installing our new dishwasher it took a bit to convince Ricky to wear the costume I had spent so much time making for him and which he had already agreed to wear, but once we all got decked out in our cool costumes we had lots of fun at the Trunk-or-Treat.

Where have we been?

Life has been busy lately, we've been enjoying some adventures as a family and working in the yard and house. Our fence is now 99.9% finished, we just need to remove some old posts and put up 1 small section of brace still, we've been working on cleaning out junk rooms and getting rid of old furniture since we got some new stuff (well new to us stuff).

Maya's been busy as ever, she gets into everything, wants what she wants and wants it NOW, is getting quite the opinion of what she likes and doesn't and is getting really good at expressing that opinion in a loud obnoxious way, and is growing like a weed. She has 5 teeth and some big bumps on her gums that look like they could be more. She says Mama, Dada, Up, and taa-taa (for turtle). She eats wants to eat almost everything, but has learned to love flavor, sometimes the only way I can get her to eat her veggies is to put Cesar dressing or parmesan cheese on them. She likes seven layer dip and loves tamales (yep she's definitely part Mexican). She's a busy girl and we love her lots!

Ricky's been busy with work and home. He is enjoying having Friday's off, although getting up int he morning is sometimes hard and often 10 hour days get really long. He leaves for work at 6am and doesn't get home until 6:30 pm, we miss him but also enjoy having him around on friday. He has started working out at a gym across the street on his lunch breaks and that is helping him get through the long days. I've been keeping him busy around the house with the huge list of projects I always have for him, infact he has lots to get done outside before it gets too cold and then he can start on all the inside projects.

I on the other hand have been enjoying taking care of Maya, finding a good bargain, and keeping busy with other various projects. Although I love being a stay at home mom, this week I accepted a part-time social work position. I start tomorrow and am super nervous about it, but know I will enjoy using my brain in a way that I haven't for quite a while. I will be working 20 hours (3 days) a week and I am hopeful that I can work, take care of the house, and still spend quality time with my husband and daughter! Wish me luck!

Well here's some pictures from all our recent adventures!

We took a trip up to visit with Maya's great-grandpa. They had so much fun playing together!
We spent a day at Bear Lake, the weather was beautiful, the water was warm and it was nice and relaxing.
Maya and Poppy playing in the water.

One weekend we went up the canyon with our friends Emily and Trevor and Maya's buddy Lily. We enjoyed dutch oven dinner and s'mores around the campfire.

Ricky had to go south for work one week, so Maya and I tagged along and then we spent a few days at the Grand Canyon. This was quite the week! The day we were getting ready to leave, infact the minute I was pulling Maya out of her high chair to put her in the car she started throwing up. Poor girl was puking everywhere. So we got her cleaned up and loaded in the car, we didn't have much time to spare, Ricky had to get to work. On our drive south we had to change Maya 4 times due to throw up or blow outs. Luckily the first few nights we had a hotel room because we had to do laundry and deal with a sick little girl. She was terribly ill and threw up every where we went. When we thought she was getting better she would throw up again. After 2 days of puking and one more day of blow outs she was finally starting to feel better and we were off to go camping at the Grand Canyon.

Our little cow girl, she wasn't feeling so hot, but she was a good sport to let mommy get a picture.

Horseshoe Bend

When we drove into the North Rim the temp droped 20 degrees to 55 and I was really glad I packed some warm clothes for Maya. She had a good time playing in the car while Poppy set up the tent in the rain.
A beautiful view from the North Rim.
Maya enjoyed being hauled around while we hiked, Thanks Emily and Trevor for loaning us the backpack, we might have to invest in one!
We stopped at Cedar Breaks on our way home, it was beautiful!

My Baby's getting so big!

Maya is growing up and FAST! My baby isn't so little anymore, she will be 9 months on Sunday and is getting so big and learning so many fun new tricks!
She is saying Dada and Mama and making lots of other sounds. This is the first time she said dada, ricky was smitten!
She's crawling all over the house. The other day she was downstairs with Ricky and I heard them on the stairs so I went to see what they were doing and she had crawled up 6 stairs (with Ricky right behind her, but not helping her)

She's drinking out of a cup (she also eats everything, but I don't have many pics of that!)

She's playing with everything and so curious!
She's pulling herself up and getting into everything!
She's causing all sorts of trouble, yes she's in a pile of diapers! She was having so much fun! Sunday she was with Ricky and he gave her a water bottle to play with, she proceeded to take off the lid and dump the water all over herself, Ricky and the carpet. Oh so fun!

Independence Day and Pioneer Day

Us watching the fireworks!
On pioneer day we had to go enjoy the parade, it just isn't Pioneer day without the parade. Maya enjoyed her first parade, especially the bands (she gets this from Grandma O) and then we spent the rest of the day just relaxing!
Watching the Parade from Poppy's shoulders.

Enjoying her cheerios at the parade.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Sunday was my birthday and it was a lovely one at that! Saturday night Ricky took me out to dinner at our favorite Italian Restaurant, Roma Restaurante, and then we went to see Indiana Jones (probably not the movie I would have chosen, but that's ok. It was also a BIG disappointment).
Sunday we enjoyed a nice quiet day at home. Ricky made me a birthday cake
and then after Maya went to bed he gave me a pedicure.
He washed, scrubbed, massaged my feet and even.....

Painted my toe nails. (Although right after he finished I had to go and mess them up)
